If we vote for an MP who was subsequently elected have we the right to insist that he casts his vote in Parliament to match his election manifesto or do we expect his loyalties to change as climbs the greasy pole into a cabinet office.
In other words do we accept that he vote in line with the collective responsibilities of Cabinet and Prime Minister ignoring his own electorate and promises?
To me this smacks as a form of Dictatorship or at least bought votes.
Should the MP resign from office to keep to the word of his manifesto?
Have you thought that perhaps the increase in salary would then have on his vote? Would his Wife/Husband/Partner allow him to resign and lose the privileges of office?
Is an MP a representative or a delegate?
It certainly is an interesting question, who has the answer?
